10/23 HS update

10/23 HS Choir Update

Good Morning,

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! I apologize for my newsletter coming on Monday rather than Friday but the VERY busy week we had bled into the weekend as well.

First, I want to thank everyone who made our first chorus concert of the year a success! I am so pleased with how each of the ensembles sang and can’t wait to start really diving into our music making even more during second quarter.

I also want to congratulate the 6 students selected to participate in Mars HIll Choral Clinic this February. Ellie Dare, Ella Griffin, Hallie McCagg, WIlliam Pearson, Omar Valentin and Aniyah Vines.

Lastly, I spent Friday and Saturday with CMS High School Honors chorus and our incredible clinician Brad Benson. The students represented NWSA Choral program very well and I think they had a wonderful experience. The music making was lovely!

9-10 All Carolina Auditions: Any student wishing to audition for 9-10 All Carolina select choir, should submit their auditions and money no later than November 1. The fee is $10 to audition. If selected, your student will be among the elite 9th and 10th grade students who have had the opportunity to participate in this clinic the last weekend of January at Wingate University. Many of these students have later gone on to be a member of Mars HIll Choral Clinic and NC Honors Chorus. This is also one of the the attributes taken into consideration for entry into both Mixed and Women’s Chamber Choirs.  For more information, please go to  www.9-10acselect.com

Your student has been informed about this opportunity.

10/13 HS Choral Update

10/13 HS Choir Update

Good Afternoon,

I hope that everyone is having a fantastic Friday!

On Monday, October 9, we hosted Mars HIll Choral Clinic Auditions at NWSA. 10 of our Juniors and Seniors will find out if they were accepted just before Thanksgiving.

In Recital seminar, we had our first coaching session with Dr. Carl Dupont. He was fantastic and we can’t wait for him to come back.

Fall Chorus Concert:  Our first concert of the year is on October 17 at 7pm. Students will be required to be dressed and ready in E-201 at 6pm. EVERY MINUTE THEY ARE LATE IS A POINT OFF.  To be on time is to be early.

If your student needs to stay at NWSA between school and the concert, the time has passed for supervision. Please make other arrangements. There will be no exceptions.

Rules for staying between school and a concert:

  • Students will be in E-201 no later than 4:30 and will not leave the room until we perform. They will not be permitted to go downstairs to get food, performance clothes or ANYTHING ELSE.
  • I will NOT provide food or allow food to be ordered in.
  • Students will be expected to help with concert related things including but not limited to, programs, classroom set up, music collection, etc.

Event Pick up: This is a friendly reminder that students picked up more than 15 minutes late from events are out of compliance with their magnet agreement. I will be emailing these parents with a reminder that if it happens more than once, their student will no longer be able to participate in events happening outside of the school day. This includes rehearsals, concerts, and honors events. If a grade is connected to the event, the student will be able to write a paper to make up for the missed event.

CMS Honors: All CMS Honors students have received their music and permission slips. Please begin rehearsing and turn in permission slips ASAP! All tracks for the music is located on Google Classroom. I still need drivers for the event. This is a reminder that all students must be picked up from EMHS on Friday evening and and dropped off and picked up on Saturday Morning. I would like for two parents to stay at EMHS during the rehearsal on Saturday Morning. Please let me know if you are interested.

Uniforms: All uniforms have been ordered. Your student will not receive their uniform until payment or installments have been received.  Size 0 and Size 16 are backordered! We are hoping for them on Monday. I DO NOT HAVE EXTRA UNIFORMS.

Statements:  Statements went home last week. Please bare with us as we are still inputting Bank of America Payments and dress and Tuxedo Payments. If you have questions regarding something OTHER than this, please feel free to email me.

Weekly HS Chorus Update 9/15

Good Afternoon HS Chorus Families,
It has been a great week. Some of our ensembles have already learned an entire selection. I have been especially impressed with Women’s Ensemble this week as they have begun to learn sight reading! Women’s Chambers work this week on their “How Do I Love Thee” has been incredible. There are some VERY difficult parts and they are learning them with ease. Men’s finished their first selection. I can’t wait to touch it up and make it a masterpiece. Chamber is well on their way to being prepared for their various upcoming performances.
Chorus Fee’s:  The $15 payment to NWSACAB is due ASAP so that we can order our new music theory software for every student! I am so excited to share this information with everyone but it is NOT a cheap undertaking.
NWSACAB: Our first meeting of the year was on September 12, 2017 in the HS chorus room (E-201) at 5:15. It was a great meeting and I enjoyed that so many new faces were with us. Please consider coming to our next meeting on October 10. We are always happy to see new people!
Uniforms: Next week all students who do not already have a uniform will be sized and sent home with the uniform paperwork. Please let me know if you would like to use a payment plan rather than a flat payment.
Lolipops: NWSA Mixed Chamber has been selected to perform in the inaugural Lolipops performance of the year featuring music from Harry Potter! If you would like to purchase tickets the link is below.
Charms Statements: Please give us until October 1 to update your charms statement. With the influx of activity at the opening of the year, it takes a few weeks to straighten everything out. There will be a statement sent out monthly at this time.
Mixed Chamber and HC Auditions: Permission slips are due ASAP! If you have managed to lose yours, it is located under forms on Charms!
